Newsletter No.9 - Term 3, Week 10
Principal & Deputy Principal Message

Dear Families,
Thank you for a wonderful term 3. This has been a term absolutely packed with highlights. Our children continue to grow and learn inspired by brilliant educators and support staff.
Our expressions of what it means to be a catholic community have been deepened through staff reflection and engagement with our Dominican charism. We have shared Mass together, listened to Sr Shirley, a Dominican Sister and been nourished through shared dialogue of what it means to be a school with a Dominican charism today.
For our children, a highlight has been the Feast of St Augustine. We shared a beautiful Mass together and reflected on who St Augustine was, his relationship with his mother, St Monica and how we can all follow Jesus to be better and make a positive difference in the world. Our afternoon of games and amusements run by our students was incredible.
Our sports day was a huge success. Being offsite for the first time meant we had to plan and prepare thoroughly and the day was undoubtably a hit. Well done all and in particular Mr Baker and Mr Roper.
There have been many excursions, carnivals and extra curricula activities also. Early in the term our Wakakirri group performed their exceptional story dance at the Norwood Concert Hall. A heartfelt performance that shared the story of one of our family’s migration journey to Australia was award winning and incredibly well received. Thank you to Mrs Giuliano, Mrs Oldfield and the entire team.
We have had many children enter and achieve success in the Oliphant Science awards this year which we are immensely proud of. Finally, this week, our Festival Choir ended the term with an incredible performance in the Catholic Schools Music Festival. Congratulations to Miss B and the choir!
Finally, we launched our St Augustine’s Learner Qualities this term too. So far we have introduced Curiosity (the Meercat), Collaboration (the Bee) and Resilience (the Seagull). Our teachers and leaders have provided fun activities to introduce each concept. Two more will be introduced in term 4!
Our capital work continues to progress on schedule. Alongside of the main project we have a new playground being constructed in the upper primary play area and a new staff carpark almost complete on Ponton St and South Tce. Thank you again for your support and patience during this time.
We are looking forward to term 4 and the celebrations ahead. We look toward the season of Advent and the preparation ahead for Christmas.
Take care and have a wonderful break.

Spirituality Day 2024
On Friday 13 September, the staff of St Augustine’s Parish School visited St Dominic’s Priory College in North Adelaide. We heard about what it means to be Dominican from Sr Shirley Macklin OP.
Ms Helen Steele is the Principal and we were very warmly welcomed (100 staff!) to their College which is celebrating 140 years this year.
Why visit St Dominic’s Priory College?
Our staff wanted to get to know more about St Dominic and the Dominican way of doing things. St Dominic’s Priory College is based on the life of St Dominic. St Augustine’s Parish School is a Dominican school. We are spiritually related!
We began in 1955 as a Dominican school. The teachers were 2 Dominican Sisters and they taught in a brand-new red brick building (now demolished).
St Dominic created something called the 4 Pillars to guide people in the Dominican way. These Pillars are:
- Prayer
- Study
- Community
- Preaching
As a school, we are reclaiming our Dominican Spirituality by learning more about St Dominic, his life and his purpose. This will be done more and more over the next few months and we hope to share with you different aspects of our school being a Dominican school.
A very special thank you to the Director of Religious Education and Mission of St Dominic’s Priory College – Mr Joseph Catania – who was a fantastic host and organiser of our Spirituality Day. We are indeed indebted to you for your gracious hospitality and generous use of the College Gymnasium.
Prayer: "Eternal and loving God, you gave us St Dominic to teach us how to grow closer to you. May we grow closer to you by trusting in what happens to us and turning to you in prayer. Protect us from all harm. Amen."

Assistant Principal Religious Identity and Mission
Northern Cluster T-Ball Carnival

On Wednesday 18 September, 90 St Augustine's students from years 4 - 5 attended the Northern Cluster T-Ball Carnival.
The students competed in friendly matches against multiple catholic schools from the northern zone. The day was a 'come and try' day with games being purely for fun, there were no scores being recorded and no trophy or cup for the winning teams. The day was a huge success. This was a memorable experience for our students.
Thanks to all the staff involved for your support in this event.

SAPSASA Touch Rugby Carnival

We had a fantastic time at SAPSASA Touch Rugby Carnival today! Congratulations to all our rugby players who displayed incredible effort and determination.
What stood out the most was their resilience - a core value of our school. For most of our students, this was their first time playing Touch Rugby. They showed exactly what it means to persevere through challenges and being able to adapt to different situations.
Thank you to our coaches and all those behind the scenes who made this event a huge success. We are proud of our players and the way they embodied our school’s values throughout the day!
